The history of lavender can be traced back some 2500 years, this wonder plant is believed to have originated from the Mediterranean, India and the Middle East.
Everyone from the ancient Greeks to the Romans discovered the beauty and multitude of uses of this English garden staple plant. Lavender is even mentioned in the bible and was used as a Holy Essence Herb.
The word lavender actually derives its name from the Latin ‘lavare’ meaning ‘to wash”. This is one of the reasons the Romans used Lavender to scent their baths, beds, clothes and even their hair, add this to its proven medicinal properties and you can see why it was a staple in Roman villas.
