Lavender loves dry soil! Mix small stones/pebbles and grit sand into the soil to aid with drainage.

General rule of thumb, water sparingly as lavender loves dry soil. Water every 2 to 3 days after planting for the first 2 weeks; after this water only if the weather is very hot.

**Please note lavender planted in pots will need watering more regularly than plants in the ground**

We don’t recommend feeding lavender, however if you feel necessary you can use ‘Levington Tomorite Concentrated Tomato Food’.

How many plants do I need? – We recommend planting 3 or 4 plants within a meter or 9 to 16 per meter square.

For large varieties like Grosso and Edelweiss, plant 3 per metre.

When can I plant my lavender plants into the ground?

Lavender is best planted as a young plant in the spring, after the soil has warmed up to at least (15°C) and the threat of frost has passed.

If planting later on in the year (autumn) choose larger, more established plants to ensure their survival through the winter.

How do I care for my lavender indoors?

Key Tips:

Lavender should receive as much light as possible and will thrive best in a south-facing window, alternatively where it can get a minimum of 3-4 hours of direct sunlight. Without light it will be more susceptible to disease.

Rotate the pot weekly for uniform growth and flowering.

Position your lavender in a place with good ventilation and air circulation, however, do not place the plant where it will be exposed to a direct force of heat.

Do the lavender plants arrive in pots?

All of the lavender plants arrive in pots except the small plants (these do not offer a pot size on the product page).

When is the best time to prune my lavender?

We recommend pruning annually, in late summer, once flowering has finished. For more information on pruning, head to our Pruning Lavender page.

How long will my lavender flower for?

English lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) - Flowering typically occurs June- July and usually lasts up to 4 weeks.
